Confetti (4'2" x 6'0") – New Handmade Moroccan Wool Rug

Run your hand across this one and you will feel the design before you finish looking at it. A flat, finely-striped ground in cream and blush is scattered all over with soft raised dots of pile, each one standing proud of the surface like a little tuft of colour. The contrast between the smooth base and the plush, three-dimensional dots is the whole idea — a rug that is as much about texture as pattern.

The colours are its charm: dusty lilac, blush, sage, olive, mushroom, soft blue and cream, sugared-almond tones with just enough earthiness to keep them from turning sweet. No two dots are quite the same, scattered like confetti settled on a pale floor. It is gentle, tactile and thoroughly modern.

It is newly hand-knotted in 100% wool by the women artisans we work with in Morocco, hand-spun and hand-dyed using our traditional vat-dyeing process. Every one of those soft colours was mixed and dyed by hand, and the high-low texture built stitch by stitch at the loom — work that no machine-made rug can reproduce. We would rather make one honest, human piece than a hundred flawless copies.
