About Illuminate Collective

Our story starts in Louisville, Kentucky, where Justin learned the rug trade at Frances Lee Jasper Oriental Rugs. Illuminate Collective grew from that work in the antique rug business and from a love of art, design and textiles, cultivated over years of world travel.

While buying and selling antique rugs, we saw that Morocco's weaving traditions were being lost. Many weavers were not paid a living wage, and many were pushed to make rugs that weren't true to their heritage. We started Illuminate Collective to change that: working directly with weavers, making rugs rooted in Moroccan tradition, and giving their families a better living.

Our weavers work together in our workshop in Salé, and their needs and comfort come first. We provide a safe, clean working environment, the best materials and tools we can source, and dedicated time for self-care every quarter. Over the years, our weavers have become a close-knit community who help one another finish each rug.

For our new rugs, the wool is sourced from rural shepherds and hand-dyed with low-impact dyes before it is woven. We buy from small, responsible suppliers and avoid harsh chemicals.

• Vintage Moroccan rugs: one-of-a-kind pieces woven decades ago. Every vintage rug is hand-selected and inspected before we buy it, and any necessary repairs are done by experienced local craftspeople. Shop vintage rugs
