A field of Majorelle blue, deep and saturated, scattered with thirteen diamond medallions that seem to hover above it. Each one is drawn in concentric rings of rose, cream, moss green, teal and coral, closing on a centre of solid black, bright red, or an opening back to the blue itself. Not one repeats. They vary in size, in colour order, in how tightly the rings sit — because the weaver drew each by eye as she worked her way up the loom.
Down both sides runs a ladder of small checkered squares in teal, mustard, charcoal and cream, framed by a broad raspberry border. It is a bold rug, and it was made by someone entirely unafraid of colour.
We buy pieces like this because we would rather sell one honest, irregular, human-made rug than a hundred flawless machine copies. It was hand-knotted in Morocco decades ago, it has already lived a life in someone's home, and there is not another one anywhere.

Where it works
At 4'10" x 7'4" this is a true mid-size rug, with a deep shag that makes it as much about how it feels as how it looks.

A note on the pile: The shag is high and soft, which is a pleasure underfoot but less suited to rolling desk chairs or dining seating where chairs are pulled in and out.
Palette notes: Majorelle blue against raspberry is a confident pairing. It sits well with cream, unbleached linen, pale plaster, natural rattan and warm brass — and against dark walnut it turns almost jewel-like.

I saw this rug many months ago and loved the pattern so much! I needed it in a runner size which was not listed as an option.
