Peacock (5'4" x 8'2") – Authentic Vintage Moroccan Rag Rug

One enormous diamond, ring inside ring, radiating out from a small pink-and-teal heart at the centre until it fills the whole rug edge to edge. Where the rings reach the corners they fold into chevrons, so the entire surface reads as a single vast lozenge pulling your eye to the middle and back out again. It is a simple idea worked at grand scale, and it is mesmerising.

The colour is what sets it apart. Where many rag rugs are hot confetti — reds, oranges, primary brights — this one is cooler and deeper: peacock teal, navy blue, raspberry pink, lavender-grey and cream, jewel tones with a slightly moody, sophisticated edge. It has all the energy of a boucherouite with a more grown-up palette.

This is a boucherouite, a rag rug, woven from reclaimed cloth rather than new wool. The pile is deep and chunky, and up close you can pick out the individual strands of fabric that make it — offcuts and worn garments, cut and knotted one at a time. When wool was scarce, this is what a household made a rug from, and the palette was never chosen so much as inherited.

We buy pieces like this because we would rather sell one honest, irregular, human-made rug than a hundred flawless machine copies. It was made by hand in Morocco, it has already lived a life, and there is not another one anywhere.
