Voltage (4'1" x 8'5") – Authentic Vintage Moroccan Rug

Red and green, turned all the way up. A pillar-box red field, an emerald-green border scrolling with black latch-hooks around all four sides, and set on the red, two ornate medallions in colours that seem almost lit from within — cobalt blue edged in neon yellow-lime, hot pink, orange, turquoise. The upper medallion is a stepped cartouche with curling arms; the lower one more organic, almost a standing figure. Nothing here is quiet. Nothing was meant to be.

Vivid saturated colour like this is rare in vintage Moroccan weaving, and this piece pushes it further than almost anything of its age — the neon lime in particular is unusual, and thrilling. It has the energy of pop art and the soul of a hand-knotted Berber rug, which is a combination you do not often find.

It was made by hand in Morocco, and every choice on it — the clashing colours, the asymmetry between the two medallions, the confidence of that green against that red — belongs to one weaver working without a printed pattern, following her own eye. A machine could never have dared this.
